Victoria Police sergeant suspended after allegedly performing Nazi salute

Victoria Police are investigating after a sergeant allegedly performed a Nazi salute.

The incident comes just days after the first person was found guilty of performing the gesture under new laws.

In a statement, police said: “A Sergeant from People Development Command has been suspended as part of a criminal investigation into allegations that she performed a Nazi salute on two occasions this week in front of colleagues at the Victoria Police Academy.”

The Professional Standards Command is investigating the incidents on Tuesday and Wednesday this week while the female officer was on duty.”

She has now been suspended with pay.

It comes days after Jacob Hersant became the first person found guilty of performing the Nazi salute in Victoria under new laws.

He pled not guilty, but a magistrate found he intentionally performed a gesture that so nearly resembled a Nazi salute that it could have been viewed as one.
