Canada's Conservative Party still searching for new leader after 6 months

Updated: Aug 26, 2022

The country's Liberal Party was returned to power last year.

The Conservative Party of Canada is currently still looking for a new leader, 6 months after Erin O'Toole was removed from the position by the party's caucus by a vote of 73-45.

At the September 2021 election, the Liberals gained 5 seats while the New Democrats gained 1 - with the Conservatives, Bloc Québécois & Green Party making no gains.

As a result, O'Toole was removed as party leader in February.

Scott Aitchison, Roman Baber, Jean Charest, Leslyn Lewis & Pierre Poilievre are all in the running, while Candice Bergen remains interim leader.

As 13-year-old journalist Wyatt Sharpe from The Wyatt Sharpe Show explained, a new leader is set to be announced on September 10.
