The fire has been been marked under control.
6 News cameras have captured a grass fire right next to the Hume Highway near the New South Wales-Victoria border.
The fire was in the northeast Victorian town of Chiltern, between Wangaratta and Wodonga, and was listed by authorities as 'not under control' at around 10:45am local time.
It's understood there was no immediate threat to residents, but locals have been urged to stay alert amid high temperatures.
Just before 11:20am AEDT, the fire was marked as under control.
Only days ago, a mechanical fault on a freight train sparked a grassfire along the same highway at Albury, leading to a Watch and Act warning being issued.
Wodonga reached a high of 36 degrees today, while it was 37 down in Melbourne.
